Meet Alex
Alex grew up in a supportive, middle-class family and excelled in school. College was going well—until a sudden diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes and a serious hospital stay disrupted everything. Bills mounted, income stopped, and within months, Alex lost his housing and had to live out of his car while continuing classes and working part-time.
Alex wasn’t unemployed, lazy, or unwilling to improve his situation. He was resilient, capable, and determined—but homelessness isn’t about work ethic. It’s about circumstances.
Medical emergencies, financial instability, and gaps in social support systems can push anyone into crisis.
Eventually, Alex found a community program that recognized hidden homelessness—people living in cars, couch surfing, or staying temporarily with friends. With help from caseworkers, temporary housing, and supportive programs, Alex regained stability, completed their degree, and secured full-time work.

What is Sacred Suds?
Founded in March 2020 by Tiffany Wells-Alexander and Courtney Alexander, H.E.L.P.S. (Helping Every Living Person Survive) was born amid the COVID-19 pandemic, when individuals and families were facing unprecedented hardship. What began as an effort to meet immediate, basic needs has since grown into a trusted nonprofit offering housing support, health resources, education, and deep-rooted community care.
A cornerstone of that mission is Sacred Suds, a program with more than 30 years of history serving the community. Sacred Suds exist as a safe, welcoming space for those who have fallen on hard times and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect—always. Through H.E.L.P.S., this long-standing service continues with renewed purpose and expanded support.
For many, Sacred Suds is a place to wash their clothes, take a warm shower, share a meal, and find clean clothing. For all, it is a place of restoration. Every service is offered with compassion, because everyone deserves care, comfort, and respect—no matter their circumstances.
Through meaningful partnerships with organizations such as HealthWest, True North, and The Soap Dude, Sacred Suds connects individuals to vital services that help them regain stability and move forward with confidence.
